HomeGoods Happy $100 GIVEAWAY

One of my favorite retailers for home decor, HomeGoods, invited me to “Make Happiness Happen” for someone in my community with a $250 gift card to HomeGoods.  There were no restrictions and I could use the gift card to help in any way (some examples they shared were redecorating the living room of a firehouse, donating the gift card to a silent auction, decorate your spouse’s office, or the bedroom of one of your closest friends who needs some help).
I chose to put the gift card to good use by decorating the reception area/lobby of my son’s school.  It’s a wonderful environment for learning and community, but honestly, the lobby needed some help.  It’s funny how these things organically happen, because one day after drop-off, I was in the lobby with some faculty and one of the men mentioned that he didn’t really like how the lobby looked.  I had been wanting to approach the school with this idea, and the opportunity fell into my lap on that morning.  We made sure to confirm with the principal that she was on board with the mini revamp, and happily, she was!

I started with replacing an industrial grey rug with a colorful chevron ‘Dina’ rug from Joss & Main.  I had to make sure it could withstand heavy traffic, not show dirt easily, and was safe for high heels.  I think it fits the bill.  I know it’s bright, but I figure it works for a cheerful school lobby.  HomeGoods has rugs too, and I fell in love with some for my home! but they didn’t have the size and colors I needed for the school.

Then, armed with my $250 HomeGoods gift card, I shopped my local store for some decor items to tie in with the rug. The reception area is a smallish, rectangular room with two arm chairs, but that’s about it. We’ll keep the chairs and add the HomeGoods items below:  a half-moon side table, two Chinoiserie vases, and a bright yellow garden stool.  Yellow and blue are our school colors, so I wanted to add them in a creative way.  The orchid will add life and hopefully be easy to maintain.

I’m so excited for install day soon!  Thank you HomeGoods for helping make our school lobby a happier place!  And now it’s your turn to win a $100 gift card to HomeGoods.

  9. Happiness in the community… I think you can spread happiness a lot of ways. Volunteering your time, paying it forward in the drive thru line, just a simple smile or wave 🙂

  10. I love the rug. The colors are perfect for a school. It screams creativity, don't you think? My husband just started a new job. I would use the gift card to decorate his office.

  11. This would be awesome as our stuff is so old and horrible. I never buy anything just because – how fun it would be to do that – to just shop.

  12. I recently donated lots of kids gently used clothes to my youngest son's school as the teachers know the kids that need clothing and get clothes to the families. I'd love to donate this gift card to my son's teacher to use to decorate her classroom.

  13. We just moved into a new house, and are on our way through the decorating process. This gift card would be a huge help!

And where I work, we lack updated decor, so our office space doesn't feel inviting. I would love to fresh it up if given the change! I think it would make coming to work that much better!

  14. Hmm how to make happiness happen – house warming gift?! It seems I'm at that age where everyone is finally making that BIG decision to get a house! And we all know they have their quirks when you first move in 🙂 I love Home Goods because I find AFFORDABLE ways to decorate and furnish!

  15. What a good idea to refresh the lobby at your kiddo's school! I think the rug is perfect! So bright and cheery! Thank you for hosting this giveaway! 🙂

  16. I would give this to my Mama! She has been so fabulous helping me and all my siblings out, and raised us on her own after my Dad died when were kids. She deserves this to make Happiness Happen!!! 🙂

  20. I love that you donated to your son's school. Yes, they can be a bit dreary!!! The rug and accents are so fun. I would give the gift card to my oldest to buy some fun accessories for her apartment. She is on a tight teacher's budget.

  24. Homegoods I s my mommy time out. Ever try shopping there with a 3 yr old? I did once and never again. It's MY special place. Ironically, I would be changing her room from baby to little girl and Homegoods has a great kids section.

  25. Thank you for the chance to win. I would love to buy a "welcome to the neighborhood gift' for the new family who just moved in across the street.

  26. My cousin recently had a baby who has been diagnosed with a developmental disease. I plan to make Happiness Happen by donating to their organization to find a cure.

  29. OMG I would LOVE to win this. So, my mom was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia and it has been so incredibly difficult to face/handle. But, God works his miracles and she has been in the greatest hands of docs/nurses at MD Anderson so I would LOVE to decorate their leukemia wing with more homey items and pretty things so that patients feel welcomed and comfortable there…like it's a 2nd home for them. Thanks for this opportunity Megan 🙂

  30. How fun! I would help out my brother who is going to school to be a Doctor. His wife is pregnant with #3 and $ is super tight. They are plugging along tho and I never hear them complain!

  31. I work in a cancer center, we could definitely use some cheer in this sterile environment. Our administration has done what it can to make it seem homey and inviting but with healthcare budgets what they are these days it's a bit hard to do. I would use it to make our center more inviting and hopefully cheerier.

  32. This is such a fun and nice giveaway. I would help my MIL and my mom who have both been diagnosed with different forms of cancer. They could use some pick me ups in the form of décor in their homes to help brighten and lighten their spaces. They both are always giving to others, but don't take time for themselves much.

  33. Wow, thanks for the great giveaway! I love HomeGoods! We have a store 3 hrs away from our home and every time we visit my parents there, we MUST visit HomeGoods!

  34. We just got a HomeGoods in my town about 6 months ago!! Love it!! Need to do some living room updating so this would come in handy!! Crossing my fingers ;0)

  35. I'd love to use it on our fabulous neighbors that just moved in about two months ago. They still have some blank walls that need a little artwork.

  36. Definitely the daycare where my child attends. They are fabulous with all the kids and giving them something extra in return for their building would be fantastic.

  37. HomeGoods is one of my favorite stores! I'm pretty sure 90% of my decor is from there, the other 10% being from Target of course. I have yet to buy anything form Joss & Main but i LOVE that rug.

  38. I am so lucky to have a Marshall's down the street from my house and several Home Goods and T.J. Maxx locations within 10 miles of my home! My absolute favorite stores!!

  39. I would bless our local Community Services Board Day Program, give them a chance to make the area look a little more cozy since people spend a lot of their day there and often don't have nice things at home. Everyone deserves a beautiful space to retreat!

  40. Great job Megan, I'd love to do the same to our school's foyer it is need of a little attention. CONNIE
I'd also like to hear about what your PTO "happy hour party" entailed. Please send info to me about that to bradshawhouse(at)google(dot)com Thankyou

  41. My daughter's school just had their ribbon cutting. Her classroom has crates tied together instead of shelves. The teacher borrowed a laundry basket from me to hold the kids' lunches. I'd love to get them some organizing stuff for their room!

  42. I would decorate the lobby of my local nursing home, definitely bringing in some color. After all, color is one of the easiest ways to make someone happy, maybe even "Homegoods Happy" 😉

  43. I'm in a moms group on Facebook for my community, and we always seem to have a family we are adopting to get them through hard times. What a fun way to bless someone!

  44. I love that you are helping out your school, what a great idea! I'd probably do the same, our oldest is just starting preschool this year and I'm excited about getting involved 🙂

  45. My little brother and cute sister-in-law just bought their first home in TX. I spent the Labor Day weekend with them doing much needed "improvement" projects. Since they are still in school with a tight budget, I would LOVE to surprise them with $100 to Homegoods to dress up the place!

  46. I absolutely adore HomeGoods (in fact I went there on my lunch break today and bought a candle for my new office). I'd loooove a gc, which would go toward a teak bench for our master shower. Here's hoping!
