As a big user of PicMonkey (a free online photo-editing site), I always wished they had a larger selection of fonts to choose from. In the past, they have expanded their options, but now you can access all the fonts you have saved to your own computer! I was so excited to see this new development! But, I recently had to wipe my computer to fix an issue it was having, which meant I lost all the fonts I had downloaded over the years. Boo! Over the weekend, I went back and redownloaded and installed (most) of them again. I wondered if you knew how easy that is to do, so I created a simple tutorial to download/install fonts (on a Mac) and then use those fonts in PicMonkey.
To start, close all of your other applications. After you’ve downloaded your fonts, when you repen them, you should be able to use your new font. Find your font (I usually just type the font name, in this case “Jenna Sue” and free font into Google to find it) and click the “download” button.
Open your “Downloads” and click your font.
You can also access your downloads in “Finder”.
After you click the font name, the box below will appear. Click “Install Font”
After clicking “Install Font” you’ll see the fonts displayed in your Font Book and be able to use the slider to see how they look at different sizes.
DRAG & DROP OPTION: If you have downloaded multiple fonts, you can select (highlight them all) in Finder and Drag them all into Font Book at one time. If your font has multiple files (italic, bold, etc.) be sure to grab all of them when you drag and drop.
Then reopen your applications, and you should be able to use your new fonts!
TO USE YOUR FONTS IN PICMONKEY
If you are familiar with PicMonkey, the simple instruction is, when you are in the TEXT tab, just click “Yours” instead of “Ours” to use your own fonts. Scroll through until you find it and “Add Text” like usual.
If you aren’t as familiar with using text in PicMonkey, below is an easy-to-follow pictorial.
Upload your picture like normal, then click the text icon “Tt” and then the “Yours” button to access the fonts on your computer.
Scroll down until you find the text you want to use.
Click “Add Text” and begin typing. You can manipulate the color and size of your text too.
I currently use Aperture (the Mac version of Photoshop) to store and edit my photos also and just heard that Apple won’t be updating that program any longer. Boo! How do you store your photos on your computer? Do you use any editing software for internet site?

I've never heard of picmonkey before, I don't understand why you'd need an online editing program if you've got a desktop application. I do everything with Photoshop—literally everything. It's the best!
I still haven't mastered using fonts with Aperture. I should see if I can find a youtube video. I do most photo editing there though. I still use PicMonkey for collages too. How did you learn photoshop? Do you use it for graphic design too? That's what I'd really be interested in.
hi! I just downloaded a font. Is is supposed to automatically appear on Picmonkey? Because it's not. Do I need to download the webfont license instead of just the desktop license?
Hi Rachel, your fonts should appear when you go to "add text" and you'll see "ours" and "yours" I don't recall downloading any license, but I do pay $33 per year for all the premium features.
Thank you so much for sharing!!
You're welcome!
Great tips Megan. I am still two years later learning how to use my Mac. I was an old picnik user.
I used to use Picnik too. Are you getting the hang of your Mac now?
Thanks for the great tips! That Christmas card is genius and I can't wait to use it this holiday season!

I love PicMonkey but find technology a little challenging. Thanks for explaining this. It really helps!
I'm glad to hear it Janet! Just play with it a bit and you'll catch on quick.
Thanks for this! I saw they now allowed you to use your own fonts but I had no idea how to download them to my computers. I appreciate this so much!
Good Carrie! Glad this was helpful!
So glad to know that i can use my fonts in picmonkey. I use photoshop to edit, but I use Picasa as my storage.
I was using Picasa until I got my Mac, but I liked how you could use your fonts in Picasa too.
Thanks for sharing! This is good to know!
Thanks for using my font for your example, so glad you are enjoying it! 😉

I downloaded my fonts and can use them in PowerPoint but when I go to search them in PicMonkey, I still cannot find them. HELP!
In PicMonkey, you go to the "my fonts" option instead of using theirs and you should see a list of all the fonts installed on your computer.
I have a PC and haven't been able to figure out how to install the font to my computer. I unzipped the file and still can't figure it out
Hmm, I'm not sure since I use a Mac, but once I download them, they are in my font files.
