Organizing the Toys

I was starting to freak out a little realizing on Friday night just how close we are to Christmas and how much shopping I still have to do.  Do you feel the same way?  My Christmas cards aren't even mailed yet!  So, I spent some time online this weekend and accomplished so much.  I feel a ton better and am getting so exciting knowing I have gifts for my friends and family on the way!  Macy's is having a big 25% off sale and free shipping with guaranteed delivery by Christmas if you order by December 21.  One girlfriend is getting this and this:) And another is getting this.  I'm giddy to give these gifts!

Amazon is my other lifesaver and since y'all recommended Prime, I signed up and get free 2-day shipping.  This is making my life much easier. I especially like shopping for toys.  James is going to be a very happy boy on Christmas morning!

The other thing that's been nagging at me is wanting to get the toys under control so that we could see what James has and so he can get to them easier and then also enjoy the new ones at Christmas.  We keep most of the toys in bins and two toy boxes but all the toys got scrambled together, so a major dump-out and reorganization was in order.

I had to send James upstairs to play so I could organize everything.  He kept finding "new" things to play with, so he wasn't much help in organizing.  I'm still just keeping most of his toys in large baskets, organized by toy type.  The "miscellaneous" toys were put into four bins and placed inside the toy boxes.  The rest of the bins hide behind the couch, in front of the window.

The basket of cars is hiding behind our leather chair.

My solution for keeping the puzzles organized (and James loves building puzzles) was to put them in the media cabinet.  I'm hoping this helps keep the puzzle pieces together.  They were all jumbled up in a basket before.

Now I can relax in the living room again.  Nice!

I'm excited to show you more of our Christmas decor soon.  You can see that I brought in some red in the living room and added garland and white lights to the stairway banister.  It looks so pretty at night!

Are you getting the toys organized in preparation for Christmas  too?

And don't forget to link up your holiday crafts on Tuesday at Hi Sugarplum and Michaela Noelle.  See you there!

I am in desperate need to get in the playroom and get rid of some things before Christmas brings more. Good job organizing those toys!

  2. I really need to do this too! Sometimes I feel like toys take over my entire house! Definitely the perfect time of year to do such a project! This year my daughter helped me sort out toys that she no longer played with so we could donate them together, but we still need to get the toys they still play with under control! Thanks for the much needed motivation! Have a great day!

    1. Thank you! It's from Jersey Road. I thought it was going to be a little larger, and it has been in my office, but I like it in the living room too.

  8. Megan, you are so right that Christmas is coming up too quickly. I am doing OK on shopping for gifts but I am behind on my decorating. I love that cute reindeer pillow on your sofa!

  11. This is off topic, but I was wondering if you have any suggestions for a true navy nail polish. I considered OPI's road house blues, but read that it has purple undertones, and what I'm really looking for is a true, dark navy. :) thanks so much!

  12. Looks SO good Megan! I love all of your Christmas decor so far! And thanks for the fun gift suggestions! I know a few people who would love that nail polish. I just semi-organized our toys today too! I started while Kole was home and quickly decided I needed to wait until nap time. Our three year old boys are so much "help," aren't they!? :)

  13. Every year before Christmas we do a big deep cleaning and organization of the toys. Some things, like the doll house, need a cleaning. It's also a great time to set aside toys to donate.
