Working Out and Breakout Solutions

Working out is great for your mind and body, but can wreak havok on your face.  Normally, I have pretty clear skin, but when I’m doing a lot of sweaty workouts, I notice my forehead breaking out a bunch.   Does this happen to you too?  I have started washing my face in the gym locker room as soon as I finish my workout (as opposed to waiting until I get home) and I feel like that has helped a lot.  I keep foaming face wash pads in my gym bag and they are perfect because you just throw them away after each use.  I’ve had them so long that I threw away the original package, but I think they might have been Olay 2-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths.  Super convenient and helping cut down on the breakouts.

At home, my skin is sensitive so I stick with the same gentle cleanser I’ve been using for years (Cetaphil) and then sometimes at night also use good ‘ole SeaBreeze (for sensitive skin).  For a moisturizer/sunscreen, I also wear Cetaphil.  It’s the only sunscreen I’ve found that won’t break out my skin- besides the spray on kind I wear at the pool.  Both Cetaphil and SeaBreeze are sold in the drug store/grocery store.
Obviously my skin care routine is pretty sparse.   I drink a lot of water, try to avoid sun on my face, and wear a visor when I run or go to the pool, but that’s about it.  Are you doing facials, skin care “systems” or have any particular products you love?  I have a friend who is a consultant for Rodan + Fields and she swears by it.  She gave me a mini facial to try that I still need to do.  I’ll be hosting a giveaway for  Rodan + Fields soon too if you’re interested in that line.

  1. I am like you…less is more. So many use tons of products and strip away too many of the skins natural oils, actually cause breakouts from not enough. I always used Cetaphil, but stumbled upon Trader Joes own cleaner, moisturizer and now an antioxidant serum and love them all. A little goes a long way, and it has been perfect for my sensitive skin. Both of my girls learned to wear the wider headbands while playing sports (volleyball/cheer) and working out. It kept the sweat from running on their forehead helping keep it clear.

    1. Headbands are a great idea. I need to find one that will stay on my head. I usually wear a pony tail or messy bun when I workout- never hair down, it would drive me crazy.

    2. The girls like the cotton ones made by scrunchie. Target, CVS and a couple other places carry them in a pack of 5 I think. They are washable too, which is awesome. Just be sure to use a gentle, scent free detergent (we use seventh generation free and clear).

  2. I was a less is more kind of girl… and then I got talked into the R+F line… and… I won't lie. I've been using it for about 4 months and I can totally tell a difference. I think my skin is clearer, my forehead wrinkle less noticable and I'm moisturized and it smells awesome. However… it's SPENSY!!!

So enter me to win, fo' sho.

How often do you use the sea breeze?

  3. I've been using Cetaphil for years and love it. I've had people try to get me to switch, but why mess with a good thing? The facial wipes are a good idea. Baby wipes are good for a quick wipe down under the arms, chest and back if you have an errand to run after the gym and don't want to smell like the gym!

  4. Ok, you MUST check out "Obagi". It has TRANSFORMED my skin! You have to see a plastic surgeon or Derm doc but it is worth it! Everyone always comments on my skin and thinks I'm 6-7 years younger. SCORE!

  5. So funny as mine is typically clear but the forehead has been breaking out lately. Hmmm. And I don't ever wear makeup on it. Maybe I should try the seabreeze.

  6. I love Clarins non-alcohol toner! It has majorly reduced my redness! I also swear by slathering on Vaseline at night. It sounds counter intuitive but does WONDERS for my skin! At sephora the person who helped me said it makes sense it works because it's a moisturizer and I haven't noticed an issue with my sheets, but ours are dark…
