I’m Starting a New Health & Fitness Blog

Hi all!  I wanted to share some exciting news with you and get your feedback.  Many of you know that I’ve been looking for a new job, and with this extra time on my hands I’ve been devoting more time to a passion of mine, health and fitness.  Even after I struggled to lose the baby weight, the emphasis on being healthy and maintaining my weight/gaining muscle remains.  It’s even more important to me now because I want to pass on healthy eating habits to my son and let him become familiar with home cooking.  He certainly loves to help!

James might want you to know this is an old pic.  Paci now “lives in the bed” and is “only for sleeping.” But he’s cool if you still like your Paci too.

I decided to start a separate blog on these topics so that Honey We’re Home continues to be focused on creating a beautiful, well-organized and happy home and in case you have no desire to hear about food and fitness here.

I’ve been busy writing posts about workouts, (my routine, what works for me and what doesn’t, and how I fit in into my week- even with a child and full time job), along with recipes that are healthy and taste good, including the splurges (that aren’t so healthy, but a real part of how I live).  I have discovered I am kind of obsessed with food photography, so I’ve been experimenting more with my camera in my kitchen too.  I’ve got a lot to learn, but I enjoy it so much.

I also want my new blog to be a source of motivation to help get you started or keep you moving toward your own fitness goals.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, what you’d like to read about, need help with, etc.  Also, can you let me know if you workout and how often.  Do you participate in classes, run, lift weights, do yoga or  Pilates and how often?  What are your goals- maintain your weight, lose weight, gain muscle?  Are you content where you are?  Is there a fitness/food blog you like? Feel free to comment Anonymously if you prefer.

You can also email me at:  honeywerehomeblog@gmail.com with “New Blog” in the subject line.  I want to get a sense of where we are in this journey and how I can best contribute.  Thank you so much for sharing with me.

I’m working with Designer Blogs on the website design and I’m hoping the site will be live soon!

  1. I am happy to hear that you are starting a new health and fitness blog:) I cannot wait to see it! Good luck on your job search.

  2. Hi Megan! Excited for you about your new venture! I had a fitness blog for a short time, but now I just incorporate a fitness meme challenge on my blog every Friday instead. You should check it out! I also write for Skinny Mom's website, so that is where I get my fitness blogging fix now! I'm known as South Carolina Beach Babe on there. Will definitely follow your new blog! xoxo http://www.styleoyster.blogspot.com

  3. I think this is an awesome idea! I would like to read about exercises that can be done by a person who has suffered back trauma and also exercises that can help out with increased knee pain which is believed to originate from the hamstring.

    1. Darnetha- thanks for commenting. Injuries are the worst. I will be writing workouts, but of course, any workouts a person does should be okayed by their doctor, especially if they have injuries or health issues.

  4. This new blog news is so exciting to me! I've been a long time follower of your blog (in fact, I think yours may have been one of the very first ones I started following!). I've always been fairly thin, but lately I've become dissatisfied with my body and especially how I look in pictures (definitely have been hitting "untag" on Facebook a lot lately). Anyway, I've never been a runner, but have always been interested in getting started. So this new blog comes at the perfect time as I would love to get your running tips and help on getting started. I started a 2-3x/wk walk-run through my neighborhood last week, but I would like to build that up and eventually run a 5K in the next couple months. Any advice you have would be great.

I don't currently follow any health or fitness blogs, so yours will be my first:)

    1. Yep, when you're "untagging" that's a sign you're not happy. I think you are doing great with getting starting running! And a 5k is a perfect goal for you! I know there are running programs you can follow online- I'll do some research too. I did a 5K before and it was so fun because of all the people and excitement and the spirit of "we're all in this together."

    2. If you are interested in running and how to get started, check out hungryrunnergirl.com. I have been following her site for awhile. She was an avid runner and just had a baby so now she is getting back into running. She is funny and sweet too.

  5. How fun! I think it's great that you're creating a separate blog so the two will keep their brands.

I would love some tips on how to get motivated, activities to do with your husband or friends, some at-home pilates workouts (or decent videos, I have yet to find one), and small changes that aren't too scary to make.

As for food, easy yummy snacks please! And lunches that take less than 15 minutes to prepare. We have been using emeals to solve our dinner issue, and it's working pretty well!

    Best of luck!

    1. Thanks Bonnie. I'm going to be looking for at-home videos too. I know some people don't belong to a gym or just can't get their with their kids' schedules. We all need yummy snacks- you'll definitely find those at my new blog! I have heard of emeals but need to check it out.

  6. Sounds like a great idea. I'd love to know how you focused on losing the baby weight as that is my goal right now- 10 more to go! I'd also like to hear how you fit in working out with a new baby? I like to use the treadmill and workout DVDs at home, occasionally I will sign up for a yoga/pure barre class.

  7. I think it is awesome that you are starting a Health and Fitness blog! I was in great shape in college… ran half marathons and worked out at a crossfit gym… pretty much exercise was a big priority to me. BUT then I graduated and started a full time job. And my fitness came to a screeching halt. I have been a yo-yo exerciser for the past few years since graduating college. I just haven't found any routine that I can stick to. I love "Honeywerehome" and am excited to see your new blog!

    1. I know how that goes- time and energy are the biggest obstacles to sticking with a workout routine. Congrats on the half-marathon! I've only ever done a 5k.

  8. Very cool! Even though I've been working out for years I've finally gotten serious about it. I vary my routine, but right now I'm running and lifting weights. Next weekend, I'm doing my first 5K. I haven't tried crossfit yet and it's something I'm curious about.

  9. Love this idea! You've always been one of my favorite blogs to read so the fact that you will have two is amazing. My husband and I spent the last year with personal trainers to help us get our butts in gear. My husband went from 300 pounds to 240 and I went from 170 to 145. Now we are at a point where we want to continue to build muscle and lose a bit more weight along the way. We've really got into clean eating and limiting ourselves to one cheat meal a week. We also try and workout daily (with weights) in our own home gym and jog around 3-5 KM a night. Any recipes and workout ideas will help us mix things up. Good luck on the new blog!

    1. Congratulations Amanda- that is serious dedication to lose so much weight. I bet y'all feel so much better and it's awesome that you did it together! I'd love to do a "before" and "after" feature if you're interested and hear more about your journey.

  10. This is my first time to comment on your blog. I am excited to hear about your health and fitness blog. I have a desire to eat healthy and be a fit person…but my struggle is different from many. I am naturally a thin, petite person. It is hard for me to gain muscle. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Kevyn- yep, that is a struggle too. I can definitely give you some pointers on gaining muscle- it will take dedication to eating and lifting weights consistently but you can get there! Thanks for writing!

  11. I'm currently trying to lose my baby weight (I have a 5 month old). I haven't joined a gym or take classes, but my husband and I are going to try the Insanity program starting in October. I think where I/we struggle is eating healthy and actually finding time to work out. It feels like we don't have enough time to eat healthy and workout and sometimes the motivation just isn't there, so those are the biggest struggles I'm looking to overcome – a complete attitude overhaul.

    1. Congratulations on your new baby! I've never heard of the Insanity program- I'll check it out. Yes, it is a lifestyle change to get on top of the shopping, preparing meals so that you can eat healthy. But really, with a 5 month old, I say just enjoy him or her and don't put TOO much pressure on your body just yet. Yes, eat healthy and work out, but know it takes time for your body to get back to pre-baby shape. But it CAN and WILL happen!

  12. I love that you are doing this! I go to your blog often to get recipes and also motivation to lose my baby weight that has been hanging on for a year now.

  13. Yay this is exciting! Would love to see what you eat on a typical day…how you balance splurges…weekday vs weekend eating…regular exercise routine/strength routine…go-to recipes, etc.

    1. Thanks! The things you mentioned are exactly what I plan to write about- and I do splurge and the weekday eating looks different from the weekend sometimes, so I'll be spilling it all on my new blog!

  14. I think this is a wonderful idea! I had my third child 19 months ago and I'm still struggling to lose the weight. I can't wait to read your advice, ideas and tips.

  15. Full time job, two kids active in activies; how to cook healthy and quickly throughout the week and then splurge on the weekends???? Kid friendly healthy foods/recipes. workouts…. i am excited to see your new blog, love this one too!

    1. Hi Jennifer- your situation (working full time with kids in sports or activities) has been on my mind a lot lately. Because the TIME just isn't there. So, we have to figure out where we can make time or find other alternatives to getting to the gym (at home workouts?? taking turns with your hubby if you're married). I will be writing a post specifically about this. Thanks for commenting.

  16. Such a great idea! I'm down to the last 10 lbs of my baby weight and then want to lose 10 more (but I'm afraid I might get pregnant before that happens, ha!). Definitely want to work out more, mainly to increase my energy level as I never lose weight from working out. I loved your post about losing baby weight way back when. I think that has been the hardest part of having a child by far so it's nice to hear other people's journey!

    1. 10 pounds to go is great! Congratulations! I love to hear other people's stories too- I'd like to share readers' "before" and "after" success stories.

  17. I am so excited about this!! I am 8 months pregnant and would love some posts on the process you went through after baby–at what week after did you start working out again, did you start slow and what work outs were safe to do, and how did you build up, your best ab work outs etc.

    Thanks!

  18. Love the idea! Young lawyer with very little time to work out (you know how that goes). Would like to lose about 10 lbs before my husband and I start having kiddos. I work out with a trainer 3x week and yoga 2x week. My husband and I eat at home and bring our lunch during the week. we're relatively healthy but could use some help with some healthy, yummy recipes. I also recently discovered that I am not only gluten-intolerant but also lactose. I'd love to see some great lunch ideas with these restrictions (which really stinks). Can't wait to follow your blog!

    1. Yes, I know about the lawyer work:) I am hearing more about people with dietary restrictions- I'll have to consider that too. 10 pounds is so close, but can feel so far! I hope my blog helps!

  19. Can't wait for the new blog! I'm a lawyer (so is my husband) and it is hard to find the time to work out! I'd like to lose about 10 lbs before we start having kiddos, but I'm having difficulty. I work out with a personal trainer 3x week and do yoga (usually at home) 2-3x week. My husband and I usually cook dinner and bring our lunches. I'd love to see some great lunch recipes that are delicious and filling. I recently found out that I'm not only gluten-intolerant but also lactose…which makes figuring out lunch very difficult. Any help/ advice in fitness and in healthy eating- I'm all ears!

  20. I am so so excited for your fitness and health blog! I love, love, love to work out. I work out 7 days a week (unless my toddler makes it impossible haha) and I too work full time. I get up really early (around 4 am) to get my workouts in. Luckily, I am a morning person. I lift weights, do a lot of circuit training, and interval cardio. I have done P90X, Insanity, Insanity Asylum, Chalene Extreme, TapOut, and am about to start RushFit. I love working out at home and trying out new programs. I'm pretty happy where I am but would love to add more muscle (particulary to my abs and legs).

My struggle is with sweets. I eat healthy and keep track of calories on LiveStrong but I love cookies and chocolate chips. I keep my eating of these things in moderation but it is still hard. I also struggle with finding new healthy recipes for us to eat (I cook all of our meals) and I run out of new ideas and we end up eating the same things over and over. I'm ok with that sometimes but a few new recipes would be amazing!

Thank you so much–I really enjoy this blog and can't wait to see what you do with your health and fitness one.

    1. Wow Allison! YOU inspire me! I so admire those early risers- and you work full time with kids so you found out how you can make it happen. What's your bedtime? What are your favorite meals to cook?

  21. I am looking forward to following your fitness blog! I would love to hear about your regular lifting and cardio routine and even more so the food side of it. I know that is a huge part of it. I am wondering if you are really strict about counting your calories, or if you are just more cautious of making the right food choices and don't worry so much about the calories…or both?!
I am having my fourth baby this spring and am already feeling ready to have a new routine to get back into shape and build muscle!

    1. 4 babies! Congratulations Myca! I have counted calories in the past, so I'm familiar with about the amount of food my body needs and the portion sizes and don't do that too much anymore. I'm excited to share my weight lifting routines with you.

  22. I've been following your blog for the past few months and really enjoy it. I'm also a mom, but I have a killer commute and don't have time (or energy) to exercise. I'm always looking for tips and inspiration in that area. Looking forward to reading more.

  23. I have been following your blog for quite some time, but I think this is the first time I have ever commented. I am so excited for your new fitness blog. I would love to hear about your weekly cardio and weight training routine, and even more so the food side of it. I know that part is so important, and I am always curious how stirct people like yourself (who have awesome results) are about counting calories. Do you keep really close track of how many calories you take in on top of making sure they are good healthy choices, or are you just more conscious that you are always eating the right kinds of healthy foods? I am having my fourth baby this spring, and I am already feeling really motivated to try some new things and change my body. I have been running marathons for years in between having babies, and I would like to say that I am in good shape, but I would love to really tone up and change my body. You know it's time to do something different when you could run 20-50 miles a week and not see a single change in your body. I know I am healthy, but I am ready for that change. 🙂 I would love to feel more confident in my own skin…and maybe dare to wear a bikini! 🙂

  24. Megan, I am so excited for you! You definitely have a passion for this, and you also have such a kind heart. I am looking forward to reading. As you know, I am the not so old "older" mom…on my way to menopause, and I am stuck!! One of the things I really need to work on is sitting down to a good breakfast and a healthy lunch now that I am here most of the time alone. Any tips for quick healthy meals/snacks would be greatly appreciated!!

    1. Thank you Lauren! I appreciate you so much. You have always encouraged me as a new mom and I hope I can do the same for you in the fitness area. You are so YOUNG to be an empty nester:)

  25. Fantastic! I'd love to hear about how you make it all work. You keep a beautiful home, a happy boy and so much more and still manage to keep fit and healthy. It is a struggle and take slots of balance I'm sure.

I will def be a follower.

I like to take classes, run, use the machines, lift weights etc. but its hard for me to make time and pull myself away from the demands of home and my little son.

Please share with and motivate me!!!

    1. Yes, balance and time management are key. I don't do it well all the time, but I only have one young child who isn't in any after-school activities and my gym has a daycare so that's a tremendous help.

  26. I am so excited to see a fitness blog that is going to be just as beautiful as this one. I am actually running my first marathon tomorrow, it will be good to have a source of inspiration to go to after that is over 🙂

    1. Oh my gosh Tiffany that is AWESOME! Run your heart out! I'm sure you've been training your tail off to prepare and I'm so proud of you. Kick butt!!!!

  27. Exciting news! I love this blog and am excited to have another to read. In January, I decided it was time to lose weight and get healthy. I started out slowly on the treadmill worked up to 12 miles a day. I also keep a food log. I went from 230 lbs to 137 lbs in 8 months. Now to maintain, I walk/run/jog 6 miles every morning and I try to do something fun like walk with a friend, ride my bike outside, or an exercise video 3-4 evenings a week. So far, I have not had a problem keeping the weight off. I have strong legs but would love tips on arm exercises and just general maintenance. I watch what I eat but there is no food totally off limits so I don't feel deprived. I have tons more energy – not to mention it is a blast to buy clothes going from a size 20 to a size 8!

    1. Thank you! And a huge congratulations on your weight loss! I'd love to consider you for a "before" and "after" post if you're interested. I bet there's a whole new world of clothing options now! So exciting! I love the food log idea- I've done that in the past too. It helped me be accountable because I didn't want to write down "candy bar" and add in those calories and fat!

  28. I alredy cant wait to start reading! I think everything about your life is very inspiring… and you are definitely one of those women I wonder "how do they do it all?" So Im very much looking forward to how you create a healthy lifestyle while having such a busy life!

    1. Amanda- thank you but please know that nobody's life is really perfect- I'm sure you know that but it can look that way from the outside. I definitely have my share of personal struggles that I keep private because my blog is my time away from that. Thank you so much for reading!

  29. Im so excited for your new blog, and can't wait for it to go live! I love seeing how others eat and workout tips, on what works and doesn't work for them. I would love if you did a post about time management, that is one thing I seem to always struggle with.

  30. I'm excited to see what your new blog has in store. I recently had my 3rd baby (all three under the age of 4) and have been working hard to get all my baby weight off. I'm 29 so I want to look and feel like a 29 yr old. So far things are going in the right direction. I teach high school and coach swimming so I try to workout with my swimmers, because I don't have the time outside of work. My husband and I are working on creating a gym at our house. My goal obviously is to loose weight and tone muscle (so more weight lifting in my future). I've really been concentrating on my eating habits and that is where I struggle. I really don't like any veggies and so I love to try to find recipes where I can hide them.

  31. Love the idea! I think a great topic for your blog would be discussing how to cook healthy meals that satisfy our carnivorous husbands. I definitely struggle finding great dinners that make me feel great about what I eat and satisfies my meat and macaroni & cheese loving husband. Any insight on this would be great!

    I currently love these food & exercise blogs;
    http://www.carrotsncake.com
    http://www.katheats.com
    http://www.skinnytaste.com
    http://www.howsweeteats.com

Hope that helps and congratulations. I love HWH, so Im certain I will love the new blog too!

    Annie

  32. I would definitely read your new blog! That's so exciting. I really need tips on how to fit a workout routine into my schedule. I work full-time outside the home so I am gone literally 10-11 hours a day and I have a 15 month old. I used to work out 5 days a week lifting weights and taking dance classes but I haven't done that in 2 years. I lost all the baby weight (yay!) but have since starting gain weight, maybe from lack of exercise. I do have a thyroid problem but I take medication for it and see a doctor regularly so I know that's not the problem. I don't eat out much so I would love good, healthy meals to fix at home for my hubby and son.

I am so excited and can't wait to read your blog.

    1. It's always a struggle to make time to workout, especially when working with kids. Good for you for getting to the doctor and getting to the root of any medical issues. So often we put off the doctor, but it's so important to take care of our health. Thanks for reading Leigh!

  33. Hi Megan, love the idea of a new fitness blog!I have always been quite toned, mainly due to the endless amount of biking we do here in the Netherlands, but since I started working full-time everything just started to sag a bit…right now, I do 1-3 yoga or body balance classes a week, depending on how much time I've got on my hands, and mainly to strech and relax my body after a day of computer work. Besides that, I do a weekly body-pump class to try to keep toned- that's aso my main goal, although losing a bit of weight (always those last 5 pounds!) is something I wouldn't mind. I look forward to seeing easy fitness tips you can do from your home, possibly even a kind of "if you have ten minutes left, do this exercise for…" so everyone, even people with little time on their hands, can exercise in a spare moment. Also, I look foward to tips on eating clean and healthy! We already cook pretty much everything from scratch at our house, but new insights are always welcome, of course. Thanks so much!

  34. Very excited for your new blog! This year has been filled with bug changes for me, I am just finishing up a year long nutrition program and was told by a doctor to stop eating gluten, soy & dairy. Health & nutrition are a huge part of my life. I debated whether or not to start a separate blog on but decided that too many blogs would be too much work on top of real work. Ha!
It sounds like you are super organize and already have so much to share! Can't wait to read your new blog!

    1. That is a big change Amber. I am realizing how many people have food allergies. What nutrition program did you do? I'd be interested in hearing more about that.

  35. Megan, this is so so exciting. I am so proud of you and if you have so much to share. Your passion for this really shines through. I will be reading everyday and need inspiration to tighten things up around here 😉 And your food photography is beautiful. I have tried and failed miserably. Very talented, my friend.

  36. I am so excited to check it out too! I am a mommy of three and always lost the weight pretty fast except for this 3rd one. That last 8 lbs has been lingering and I'm fighting to get it off! Any tips or ideas for when you hit that plateau would be great!

  37. I'm really excited you're going to do this Megan! Like a few others have mentioned, I'm gluten and dairy-free so I follow a lot of Paleo blogs – The Paleo Mom and Everyday Paleo are 2 of my favorites. So I'd love to see those kinds of recipes!

Also, again, I'm echoing another commenter, I love CrossFit – I'm not working out as much as I used to since I'm a new mom (adopted, so I don't have the baby weight to lose), but I haven't had as much success as I'd like getting onto a new schedule with baby. So I'd love to hear how you juggle that too! 🙂

  38. I would definitely love to see the new blog about nutrition and exercise! I graduated college in May and it has been a struggle for me to get motivated to go work out after a 10 hour day behind the desk. I try to make it to the gym, but most of the time it's only once or twice a week because I really just want to head home to relax. I'm also in the midst of wedding planning, so I'd like to be a little bit more thrilled with new exercises to do so I can stay toned (and hopefully gain a little bit more muscle definition like I had for our college volleyball team) as our engagement pictures come up at the end of November.

    1. I know the feeling of just wanting to go home and relax after working all day- good for you for going a couple times a week! I wish I had worked out more before my wedding!

  39. Very excited about the new blog! Like others suggested, I would love to hear your advice on how to fit it in with a a full time job, commute to work, baby and a husband! Also, would love your advice on motivation to get back into a routine. Once I fall out of my routine it is so hard to get back into it. That is the case right now…all summer I was working out in the very early morning, but with the change of season it is so dark at that hour now and I can't get up. But once I am home from work, it is hard to get back out!

    Can't wait to read!

    1. When it's dark outside, all we want to do is sleep in! If you worked out in the morning in the summer and it worked for you, I'd try to stick with it. Thanks for reading!

  40. Love this idea! I enjoy reading about other people's routines and what works for them. I tend to mix it up as far as it goes with working it, including a little bit of cardio and some light weights. But, I have been taking adult ballet classes for about 6 years and it's the best! Also, just started doing the ballet beautiful dvd's (balletbeautiful.com" and they are great to add into my mix! I would highly recommended them – and dance classes as well if you're feeling bold! Can't wait to read the new blog!

PS – I'm a lawyer too and just getting into blogging as a creative (and totally different) outlet! So thanks for the inspiration!

    jackiejade.blogspot.com

  41. Yay! Congrats Megan! I think this will such a rewarding experience for you…cannot wait to follow along. I definitely have about 12 pounds to lose post-baby, so I appreciate your honesty in that matter and would love to get my body looking like yours! It rocks! 😉

    1. Natasha, you have come so far so fast in your post-baby weight loss! You were so healthy during your pregnancy though. Good for you! Enjoy that baby!

  42. I am so excited you're starting a health blog. Looking forward to your creative recipes and to hearing about what you do to workout. Tips for quick and easy things to take to work for lunch would be good, as well as ways to add excitement to the boring chicken and veggie dinner I usually eat. Can't wait to start reading it!

  43. Hi Megan! First of all, I love your blog, Honey We're Home, but I'm also so excited to hear about your new fitness blog! My workout routine usually goes something like this: 2-3 weeks of intense workouts everyday and eating really healthy followed by 2-3 months of doing.absolutely.nothing! Ha! Obviously, this isn't ideal! So, any tips you can give on staying consistent and how to fit in workouts with a busy schedule would be super helpful and inspiring! Best of luck!

    http://happilyeverafteringeorgia.blogspot.com/

    1. Hi Renee, Sounds like you are overdoing it in the 2-3 weeks and getting burned out! We all have to find something we can maintain so that it's just our way of life. Thanks for your honesty:) I hope my blog helps!

  44. Please hit upon the emotional aspect of binge eating, falling off the wagon as soon as something negative happens in life. I can lose weight but I get so crazy focused & put so much pressure on myself that I just explode if I haven't hit my weekly goals & get discouraged. What keeps the daily & weekly motivation? We all know how to lose weight, but it's maintaining that weight loss proves disastrous at times.

  45. Hi Megan!
I lovvve this blog and I just found it two weeks ago: http://www.shutupandrun.net

I'm a runner: four times a week. I do 3.6miles three times and 5miles one time a week. I really wish I could break up my routine and try other things: yoga, Pilates, even circuit training on the machines, but I'm just not ready to not run, and I don't trust myself that I would be able to run again if I took a "break." I also want to lift weights after running, but b the time I'm done, I just want to go home! I run at the gym in the treadmill and I love it.

    shilohstaste.com

    1. So you like the treadmill? I prefer outside. Could you run for 20 minutes, then to weights or vise versa. That way, you're not giving it up completely, but you are getting the benefit of some weight training too- since you're already at the gym.

  46. So excited for this! I am currently not so consistent with working out. I like to run/hike (I live in the mountains) before work, but it's too dark now. In the winter, I tend to use cardio dvds. Your posts on eating interest me as well–the protein heavy, low sugar approach seems to work best for me. Best of luck with the new blog and career search!

  47. Hey Megan! Great idea starting another blog. It's what I always wanted to do with mine but it keeps turning into being just about family. Oh well, that must be all I can handle right now. I would love to give any advice about any of the Beachbody workouts. I coach for them and have completed many of their at home workouts. Working out at home is the best! I've done P90X, Insanity, Chalean Extreme, Turbofire, and I'm doing Les Mills Pump right now. Good luck and I can't wait to read more!

  48. wow megan!!! look at all this feedback…so awesome!! i'm so excited for you, and so happy that you're excited about it! I don't work out, I know I should. I under eat most days, and over eat the rest. Not a good formula for lifelong health. What lens did you use for that gorgeous caprese salad shot!!??!!

    1. You are one of those freaks of nature- you have a SEXY figure! I used my 50 mm lens- it's the one that gets you the great blurry background and has a really low F-top.

  49. This is great! Lately I've been very into working out! I run a mile every other day (not a lot, but better than nothing!) and lift weights every other day as well. I try to do abs every day. I'd love to learn more arm weight techniques. I've loved doing my weights- it's cool to actually see results!! I also LOVE yoga. I did hot yoga in Seattle, which I'm a big fan of. I'm excited for this blog 🙂

  50. Hello! I am excited you are starting a health and fitness blog. I have two kids one is 7 years and I also have a 7 month old daughter and I haven't lost any of my baby weight from her. Okay, I lied. I lost some weight, moved in with my fiance (now husband) and gained back the weight. And then some. I am at my biggest going from being a size 0 at my smallest to being a now size 14. Now I don't knock being this size, and my hubby loves my curves, BUT I want to find a happy medium. I'm not too concerned about scale numbers- but I need more energy, I want to feel better in my clothes and I want to be FIT-not skinny, fit. I used to love pilates, spin, ballet, light weight training and yoga and used to work out everyday. Now I just feel so incredibly out of shape and its really frustrating that my endurance and flexibility aren't where they used to be. It is damaging to my pride so I don't bother. BUT now, my husband is deployed and I really want to surprise him. So anyway, sorry for the long comment but I am looking forward to your blog and I hope it can help nudge me in the right direction!

    1. Hi! Thanks for writing and sharing! Congratulations on your little baby! I agree with being FIT! I hope my new blog encourages you and helps get you on the right track for YOU and then you can surprise your hubby! 🙂

    1. Hi Christina! I have chosen a new blog name, but I'm keeping it secret until it's ready. I'm hoping the site will be ready in the next week or so. I also love Tosca Reno books! I'll check out that website too.

  51. Congratulations, Megan! I have a LOT of weight to lose, but I am having a hard time feeling motivated, or even knowing where to start. In high school/college, I maintained a small size with some very unhealthy habits (ie. eating nothing and working out all the time), so I'm not sure I know how to do this the healthy way….Can't wait to follow along on the new blog. 🙂

    1. Hi Amanda- good to see you! I hope I can share some information that will help you and get you started in the right direction. I KNOW you can do it and will feel awesome!

  52. Yes! I love it! I have enjoyed your healthy eating/fitness posts and you have really inspired me. Although I have not done anything about it! I want to change but don't even know where to begin. Would love to know how to get started! Let me know when it's up and running!

  53. Yippee! You know I'm so excited about this! My main workout is running so I would love tips on sculpting muscle. I hate lifting weights and don't want too look "buff". Just toned if that makes sense. Can't wait for your recipes too as you know I love to cook! So happy you are following your passion:)

    1. Natalie- you bring up a good point. Most women don't want to look too muscular, but I really don't think you have to worry about that. We don't have the same chemical makeup and you'd have to lift really heavy and eat a particular way to see the kind of muscle gain that you're afraid of and probably take supplements.

  54. just great! can`t wait to see the content!
for me the most difficult thing is to keep on eating healthy and having workouts..As majority of the crowd 😉 I give up pretty quick…
Wish you a smooth start with your new blog!

    1. I've been working on writing posts so that when the blog is ready to go live, I'll already have a few articles posted. Thanks for the well wishes!

  55. Best news I've heard this weekend!! Doing the happy dance at my computer! I intially found your blog via a before and after weight loss picture and although I have fallen in love with Honey We're Home, I have always hoped you would incorporate more posts related to your healthy eating and fitness routine! Would love to see pics and descriptions of your workout for the day as well as descriptions and recipes for your meals/snacks for the day- I love this type of daily motivation! Definitely check out Pbfingers.com and undressedskeleton.tumblr.com. I go to a gym 3-4 days a week for cardio, weights and group fitness classes to maintain weight loss and build muscle tone and eat clean "most" days but love a sweet treat!

  56. I'm excited about your new blog! I'll be a faithful reader 🙂 I workout 5 days a week=3 spins (class) 50 mins each; 1 elliptical 30 mins; One 4 mile run (slow-medium pace). After spin two days per week I lift light weights upper body and work abs. At my goal weight trying to maintain. 🙂 excited to read your posts!

  57. Awesome! I'm always looking for new health and fitness blogs..esp since I just got WAY into working 4-5 months ago. I love new workouts, circuts and new recipes to feed my family! I love lifting too so any tips I'm up for that too!

have fun in your new lil adventure and cant wait to read!

  58. So excited! I love when you post about Heath/fitness. I work out at home 5 days a week doing a variety of things insanity, p90x running, HITT work puts.
I would love healthily/clean recipies my family would eat to great home workouts.
    Can't wait to read
A few Heath blogs I like are fit2flex and blonde ponytail … Great pin friendly workouts that get your heart pumping and some recipies that are crockpot friendly

  59. Hey Megan,
Congrats on your new endeavor. I follow your blog and have been a fan for about the last five months. I am excited that you chose the fitness route and I can't wait for it to start. I would like to email you to tell you a little bit more of why your blog would mean a lot to me. So I will, but just wanted to say a quick hip hip hooray to you.
    Racquel

  60. I'm so happy for you Megan!! I've came back to your blog after a hiatus of blogging. I have changed jobs and just not had the time to keep up with my shop. I've decided to start a new blog more focused on my life and passion for decorating, rather than centralized around my store and sewing. Yours was one of my first favorite blogs and I'm so happy for you. I'll be sure to check it out. In the meantime, can I have your closet yet? :p

  61. I have the problem no one ever talks about. I want to gain weight. Not fat! But, good weight. I lift weights and my arms are good it is the tummy and butt that get me. I injured my back a few years ago. Although I don't have constant pain. It is when I work these areas I can't get out of bed. I am very active. I need to find a balance between gaining weight and muscle.

  62. As a home decor lover who also likes to eat healthy and exercise, I'm excited about your new blog. I loved your post the other day about losing weight after your pregnancy. I'm almost half-way through my first pregnancy and although I'm on track *so far* with weight gain, it's been hard work and I know I'll have to work even harder after to keep myself healthy. I'm always interested in new healthy recipes, especially those with tips on sneaking in protein and decreasing sugar. I'd also love to hear any tips you have on how to get the best bang for your time in a workout and how to work out at home. I tend to be more motivated to exercise at home when I know I won't lose 30-40 minutes going to the gym and back 🙂

    1. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Such an exciting time! I'm hoping I can recommend some at-home workouts because I know a lot of people can't get to a gym.

  63. Hey Megan-

You know my passion for food and health, so how could I not have ideas on this?

Just like the DIY/home community, there are tons of food/health blogs. I can give you the list of the ones I read.

I'd love to see your take on the differing opinions on dieting, weight loss, etc. On my journey with Moose, I've stumbled into the world of Real Food, and it's changed the way we eat here at the estate.

And it's changed my body for the better. I look healthy, thin, and my skin at nearly 33, has never looked better.

Super excited about your new venture. Running two blogs is a ton of work, btw momnivore's dilemma and the classroom creative {on wordpress platform, so much better btw}; I'm stretched thin! But I don't watch tv, really.

    Plus you are working FT!
    xoxo
    N

    1. Hi Nicolette- I KNOW you have lots of food ideas and have researched a ton! I'm so happy that you are looking and feeling good. I agree, TV is the big time suck:)

  64. I can't wait for the new blog! I'm now in my mid 30's and realise that my health and fitness has taken a back burner to my career…and I don't like it! I would love to learn more about motivation, how to come back from injury and how to combine diet and excercise when your time poor or just plain old tired!

  65. So excited you are starting this blog- you look amazing and I know you lost the weight in a healthy way! I work out 5-6 days a week and eat pretty healthy, but I always struggle with knowing how many cals to eat daily…to maintain, to lose, etc. Would love to see your weight training workouts in particular! Thanks, Megan!

    1. You are doing awesome with your workouts Jessica! I will try to write about calories- people can be so confused in that area. I've already been writing about my weight training. See you soon!

  66. This is great news. I am especially interested to see how you fit workouts into your schedule. I have a full time job and NO children and I have a hard time finding the time to workout. I can't even imagine once I have kids. However I use to be very fit and active and would love to incorporate it daily. Balancing is key and would love ideas on that while juggling a home. So excited! Can't wait.

    1. You sound like one of my best friends- she's single without kids and so busy! It's hard for all of us- with children, without- we are all in the same boat.

  67. OOO.. I can wait to start following your fitness blog and all the yummy healthy food options to add to my growing list of healthy cooking options. Hit me up if your looking for some good in home workout DVDs! I have been using in home fitness DVD since 2004! Love that I can get a good workout in my livingroom and don't have to run to the gym to get it done.
I have a fitness like page on FB hope over and check it out. http://www.facebook.com/meghanboeckman.
    Cheers.

  68. SO exciting! I'll definitely be following along – whatever you do seems to work so I can't wait to find out more about how you stay in such great shape!

  69. First time commenting, but I feel like I am constantly struggling to not gain weight as I get older. I never lost 5 lbs after baby 1, and am probably 2 lbs from before baby 2, so just want to lose a few pounds and get more toned. I work and have young kids, so I usually workout at home with workout videos or jogging.

I would really enjoy a blog where I see what a fit and healthy person eats and how they workout each day for inspiration. I follow some other blog where the post pictures of their meals and say what they did to workout and I find that helpful.

Another topic that I would definitely follow daily is how to make healthy foods that your kids will actually eat. I like to eat dinners with my kids and they like some healthy food but they aren't eating baked fish and veggies no matter how many times I try.

    1. Thank you for commenting. I hope reading what I do and how I eat is a good example for you. As for the kids food, my son is the worst! I still try to give him a dinner each night, but he only will eat yogurt and "snacks".

  70. I'm so excited for you and your new blog! I love when you have posted recipes and healthy stuff in the past. I exercise about 5 days/week. I run and do a weights class at the gym. I try to do several 1/2 marathons per year and maybe one marathon. I'm interested in healthy recipes and anything to help me stay motivated with clean eating. I love to exercise, but have a problem with diet!!!

    1. Thanks Suzy! I love hearing about people who exercise 5 days a week- it really takes commitment. I'd love to hear how you train for running. Congratulations on the 1/2 marathon and marathon- I've always admired those runners on race day.

  71. Congratulations on starting another blog. I don't know how you do it! I've been following your HWH blog for a while now – I think I've read every post, so inspiring. Can't wait for your fitness blog, I've been trying to lose my twin baby belly for almost two years so I'll be looking forward to any new stomach workout tips and healthy recipes. BTW, don't you love Designer Blogs? They designed my blog as well 🙂

  72. This is totally wonderful and just what I need! I have the whole eating too many sweets thing down pat but I definitely need help and advice from a friend on working out. Between the two different schedules of the kids I feel like I am always in the car and when I am home I feel like cleaning should be what I am doing. Hmmm…wonder how many calories you burn from sweeping and vacumning?

  73. This is going to be a smashing success! I'm so excited for you! I am currently the biggest I have ever been (except pregnancy) and I'm hating every minute of it. I'm having a hard time just getting started…
    xo, Abby

  74. How funny! I am starting a new blog, too. I have a personal family blog but then I decided I wanted to blog about how we use our new house to bless other and serve God through it. Check it out! http://www.servinghome.com

P.S. If you know who Greg Matte is we're going to be friends!

  75. Good for you, Megan! I can't wait to see the new blog- I am sure I will love it as much as I love this one! : )

  76. Hi Megan,

I love the idea of a health and fitness blog! The posts about your workout routine and healthy recipes (okay, and some unhealthy recipes) are one of my favourites anyway.

I have quit my gym membership a year ago (because I never went there) but instead I do work out at home or outside doing the 30 Day Shred, Winsor Pilates and walking (if the weather is nice). I try to do each of the three 30 Day Shred workouts every week and do Winsor Pilates twice a week (if I’m really good). My goal is to get more toned and eating healthier. So I can’t wait for your new blog!

    Judith

  77. This is such exciting news Megan! I love HWH and can't wait to follow the new blog as well! I seem to get in a rut with both exercise and diet at times and always find motivation from others so this will be just perfect for me! I enjoy running and cardio more than weight training. I often find it difficult to fit both exercise & cooking at home hard with a busy job and am so impressed with how you can do everything!! Congratulations again on your new venture!

    1. Thanks Andrea- I so appreciate it! I don't do it all:) One child and a gym with a daycare helps tremendously! I look forward to seeing you at my newblog!

  78. That is awesome! I've been following your blog for a while now and love it! Definitely looking forward to your new health and fitness blog. I work full time and with two kiddos with homework and after school activities makes it hard to put a healthy dinner on the table. Healthy dinner ideas would be great and of course the extra motiviation to get back into working out!

    1. I'll be posting what we eat around here, and hope that you can use that in your home too. I really appreciate you reading and your support. Thank you Maria.

  79. Yay! I'm excited…we tried your protein pancakes, and we really liked them! My husband and I work out about four times a week (two resistance, two cardio). As far as our goals, hubs is trying to lose 5-10 lbs/tone, and I am just trying to tone up a bit. I love the Nike Training app, and then I also lift weights, and try to do an occasional jog with the stroller. We eat six small meals a day, each with lean protein, fruit/vegie (with low glycemic load), and a high fiber, wheat, low cal starch. My goal with our nutrition plan is to have it not feel like a diet, so I am always looking for good dinner recipes. I am excited for you to share your recipes. I love eating healthy and also having our almost three year old daughter be healthy as well by eating good foods. Can't wait to see your new site!!

    1. Yay for trying the protein pancakes! It's so much easier when you have your husband on board. You guys seem like you're doing well! How did you get your 3 year old eating well? I have a hard time with James. I need to try that Nike app- I haven't yet.

  80. YAY! So excited for this!!! I would love healthy recipes, your work out routine, and advice on how to fit it all in with a job and family. I do a bootcamp with weights and cardio (Barry's Bootcamp) several times a week, but sometimes it's hard to get it all in with life, job, etc. New healthy recipes are always great! Congrats and good luck!

  81. Megan,
I just recently found your blog and was excited to read you are a fellow HOUSTONIAN!

I have my dream job of owning my own business of in-home personal training and fitness consulting: http://www.trainingforlifehouston.com

It's great to know you are out there encouraging the health and fitness effort. I love what I've read on your blog about decorating, beauty and the home arts!

I will be eagerly following your new venture!

  82. I am excited to read about your health and fitness tips. I've taken up running in the last year and a half and am currently training for my first full marathon. I'm still struggling with losing the last 5-10 lbs, though. You look fantastic and I'd love to see your tips.

I also struggle with providing healthy meals/snacks that my picky husband and two sons (7 1/2 & 3) will eat.
    Thanks!

  83. I'm so excited that you're starting a health and fitness blog. I love this blog and can't wait to start following your new blog. I'm always looking for tips on eating healthy and getting in exercise. I'm a mom to two year old twin boys and I need to lose weight but I need healthy recipes that are fast and easy.

  84. Definitely interested in your new blog and its direction. I am a part of a running group on Facebook with the goal of making it to 500 miles this year. Since I had a baby last November, I am not doing great at this challenge, but the point is I am trying. Since having my baby I find it hard to make it to class-style workouts. Up until the day I went into labor, I did yoga twice a week and kickboxing twice a week. Post baby, I mostly run. I occasionally use the SWorkit App on my iPhone and I have found a kickboxing class that I can get to once a week. Having a baby and working out is so much harder than not having a baby. Anyways, I am always on the look for healthy tips. I cook most of my meals at home and try to stay as healthy as possible with them — making sure to cook at least one meat free dish each week. Good luck with your new blog! I look forward to reading it.

  85. I am glad you came up with all this! Nice 🙂
Just wanted to share my friends experience here. She is doing yoga-pilates

    PiYo Workout

some amazing and she is very satisfied with the results! She lost weight and extra fat! This is the best workout so far!

  86. Getting began with a way of life of health and fitness is not really the difficult challenging process that anyone usually believe it is. When you really think about this, the challenging factor is often the starting. Later on, the relax will likely be a lot simpler after you really get the hold of it.
