Luscious Lashes

I’m definitely not a wear-makeup-absolutely-every-time-I-leave-the-house-girl.  But I am a mascara-always-girl.  Usually, on the weekends, if I don’t feel like putting on make up, I at least put on mascara.  I feel like it helps me look more awake, and less like I’m 12 years old.

Every time I purchase my mascara from the department store, the salesperson inevitably asks, “Would you like to try the lash primer too?”  No, thanks, just the mascara:)  But after watching my beauty guru tout the benefits of applying lash primer to your lashes before mascara, I decided to give it a try.

My favorite mascara is Estee Lauder “More Than Mascara” in Rich Black.  I think I first tried it in high school when I borrowed it from my very pretty friend Brandy.  I’ve liked it ever since, even though I’ve tried other brands over the years.  I like it because the wand has bristles that are very close together with a pointy end.

After purchasing the lash primer, I have to admit- I love it!  I think it actually does make a difference in how full and thick my lashes look.

So now, my makeup routine includes curling my lashes (with a Revlon lash curler), putting on the primer, waiting a minute or two, then applying mascara.  (I know some people curl their lashes after applying the primer/mascara, but I always curl mine first.)

The primer goes on kind of white, but dries clear.

I have found a drug store mascara I like too, and keep this less expensive version in my purse for touch- ups.  It’s Maybelline Full ‘N Soft.
Do you use a lash primer?  Am I the last one on board with this? What’s your favorite mascara?  I like pretty dramatic lashes so I apply several coats, stopping just short of the Tammy Faye look:)
And I also like to airbrush, even though I admit to going a little heavy on this one!  I used PicMonkey (thanks Cassie!) to erase not only the guy in the background, but also my squint lines.  I whitened my teeth and smoothed my skin.  Oh, how I wish my skin was so flawless!
Hope y’all are having a great week!  Only a couple more days till the long weekend!

I am always looking for mascara that I like and really don't have a favorite right now but I do use primer 🙂
    Isn't picmonkey fun!!

Ahh I have never used a high end mascara, I'm addicted to my L'oreal! Never used a primer though, maybe I should look into it because Im a dramatic lash girl myself.

Alright, I need to use an eyelash curler. I already have long lashes so I never thought about using one, but I've been seeing them mentioned on a lot of blogs recently so I think its time! Next step will be the addition of primer to my routine 🙂

You look great & don't need to be air brushed! I haven't tried lash primer but I'm going to now. To be honest, I hadn't even heard of it. Mine are pretty long just not very full. Thanks for the tip.

Megan you are so beautiful girl!!!

  6. May 24, 2012 / 2:28 pm

I'm going to have to look into primer, I've never used it …. I'm pretty much a slap on some mascara and then run out the door kinda girl

I'm a HUGE fan of Cover Girl's Lash Blast mascara with the spoon brush. It takes a little while to get used to the brush and not get mascara all over, but all it takes is one coat and you're done. No primer either. LOVE!

I haven't used a primer in a long time. I like Bag Gal Lash by Benefit and it's kind of thick so I'm not sure a primer would be good. You're beautiful – no airbrushing needed!

I have never used primer but think it sounds like a great idea! Might need to just pick some up!

I completely agree with the comments above…you do NOT need to airbrush 🙂

I don't find that primer really makes a difference with my mascara. I love love love to try out different mascara. If you haven't already, you've got to try MAC's Haute & Naughty…amazing! If you like it thick, you'll be set. I also really love to use CG lash blast volume.
Both of your pics are beautiful!
Thanks for sharing with us…you are gifted. 🙂

I've never heard of primer for eye lashes. I'll have to try that out!

Lash Blast Volume by Covergirl is my absolute favorite but I'll wear L'Oreal Double Extend Tubes if I'm going out some place special. Double Extend Tubes has the mascara on one end and the primer on the other…it really does make your lashes look longer.

I love that you were so honest about the airbrushing to your photo. Lets face it, not everyone would admit to that.

I've never used a lash primer. I'm probably too lazy to start, lol. My favorite mascara is Lancome Defincils. Best mascara ever. My second favorite is Estee Lauder's Sumptous mascara. I just tried it two years ago and what I love about it is that it gives you very natural looking lashes, almost as if you had single false lashes attached. I really love it for daytime. Estee Lauder mascaras used to both me-there was some ingredient in them that made my eyes water but Sumptous was the first one that does not. I have used Estee Lauder cosmetics since I was 13 and while I do use some drugstore cosmetics, I swear by Estee Lauder's Double Wear Maximum Cover Camouflage Makeup (foundation) for flawless coverage and never use anything else.

I'll have to check out Picmonkey…I don't think you need any airbrushing but who wouldn't love airbrushing.

ohmygosh — I was staring at the first pic of you, blown up big on my screen, and being so pissed that your skin looked so amazing!!! and lol you airbrushed…although, your 'real' skin looks amazing, too! you are so freaking gorgeous! And no, I don't use primer…I recently discovered a mascara called 'False Lashes' or something like that…one of those revlon brands…but I love it bc I'm one stop short of Tammy Faye. Must be a texas girl thang. 😉

ps — what lens are you using to get all that good blur in the background of the curler shot?

I stumbled upon L'Oreal Paris Double Extend Beauty Tubes at Ulta one day about a year ago because they were on sale (of course) and OH MY I fell in love! It has a primer on one side and mascara on the other. It isn't technically "waterproof" but if you cry, etc. it doesn't run and it comes off easily in "tubes" with just some water. You must try!

I enjoy reading your posts because you always have fun in the cutest way (i.e. photo airbrushing):)
I've never tried a lash primer, but heard so much about it. I'll probably give it a shot!
    Thanks for sharing!

I m glad you wrote this – I always wondered about the lash primer – I'm going to try it.

By the way – you are beautiful inside and out, without the airbrushing !!

  18. May 25, 2012 / 2:57 am

Primer huh? I've always said no, but maybe now I'll try it. I'm a Benefit Bad Girl, They're Real, or D&G mascara gal.

  19. May 25, 2012 / 3:24 am

Thanks for the mascara tips! I always stick with what I know, but I like to have new options.

  20. May 25, 2012 / 3:27 am

I'm in the market for a new mascara. I'll give this one a try! I can't live without my curler. I think I'll have to try the primer, too. Thanks for the recommendation. Megan, you don't need any airbrushing. You are beautiful!

  21. May 26, 2012 / 6:52 pm

I love Blinc, which has the 'tube technology' that I adore! But, for a cheap alternative, I'm a Great Lash girl (you know, pink and green tube??). I might have to try Estee Lauder for a change, though! Thanks for the info!

  22. May 29, 2012 / 3:25 am

You put mascara on so you don't look 12? I put mascara on so I don't look 112 LOL The airbrush picture is stunning, and cracked me up when I read that you did that. But come on, you don't need to airbrush your beautiful face, but that guy in the background I totally get.

  23. June 2, 2012 / 3:25 pm

I adore lash primer! I was introduced to it about 15 years ago by a flight attendant girlfriend who used, guess what – Estee Lauder Lash Primer Plus!! I haven't used mascara without primer since, but now my favorite is L'Oreal Double Extend in Carbon Black.

I love mascara and I enjoy it. Good mascara can achieve longer lashes.
