Dining Room Progress {Drapes & Mirror}

We’ve made a little progress on the dining room over the weekend, and although it’s not complete, I wanted to show you what we’ve accomplished so far.  As you recall, we started with this:

The curtains are hung, but they need some work.  I mistakenly gave my seamstress the wrong measurement, so they are too long and need to be hemmed.  I have them tucked under in the photo, so they don’t look that bad, but they are actually about 10 inches too long.  Also, I’m going to have her line them (what was I thinking, assuming I could skip this step since they don’t cover much of the window?)

We bought a new mirror for the space too and I’m liking the clean lines.  It’s the Reflection Mirror from Z Gallerie (32×48).  I also brought in our console table that was previously in the entryway (musical furniture:)
I haven’t yet decided on a chandelier, but I’m thinking we will be replacing our current one with something that fits the room better.  You can go here to see two that I’ve been contemplating and I’ve added the source information.  But, throwing a wrinkle into the mix, now I’m liking this one too!  It was on sale last week, but sadly, not anymore.  Now that we have a mirror, I’m going to keep looking to see what works best.

The room isn’t styled too well yet, but I love the leafy green stems in the vase.  I picked them up at the grocery store.  I was looking for one of those big banana leafs, but couldn’t find any.

It’s coming along.  And the rug is supposed to arrive tomorrow!  Now I’m pondering:
*Something on either side of the mirror (sconces??)
*Art for the other walls
*Painting the walls
*Accessories for the console table
*Table linens (runner)
*Pillows for accent chairs
*Chandelier
Hopefully we’ll pull it together in time for the holidays! And speaking of holidays, are you getting excited???

  1. It's really coming along! I like all of your choices. However, what about moving the mirror to a smaller wall and putting several (3-4) framed and matted pictures across the wall in a row? Maybe botanicals or black and whites? That would have a huge impact I think.

  2. I like the idea of sconces on either side of the mirror, and my choice of lighting would be number two, or a combo of two and three-chandelier with a shade, one of my favourite looks. I want to be a creepy copycat and duplicate your whole house for myself. Love everything!

  3. I love that mirror! I've been searching for one for our formal dining room as well but so far, no luck.

  4. Love the drapes! They go great with the room! Are you planning on the curtain rod going all the way across the top? That's how I have mine and my window is much longer. It's makes the room look bigger….just a suggestion. 🙂 I also love the choices you have for the new light.

  5. It's really coming along! Love the addition of the mirror and the curtains. I think the updated chandelier will really pull it all together! 🙂

  6. long time lurker here…never before commented…..LOVE the room, love your whole house! I think sparkly chandelier from Pottery barn is beautiful, I do agree that some extra "twinkle" would really look great with the mirror!

  7. Looking so nice. I like all 3 of your new fixture choices, but the PB one looks like it might be a little too small for your space. I love, love your molding and the curtains look so nice. (I stole the idea from your living room and am ordering fabric (Braemore Fioretto) right now to make mine! So thanks!)

  8. LOVE the new chandelier. Its just like its made for your table. Go for it even if not on sale! 🙂 I was the one who wanted your original one to stay but this is just so perfect!

love your console table. So chic & functional! Could you share where you bought it?

  9. loving the progress my dear!!! everything is coming together…and yes, the holidays–i can hardly contain myself from buying tons of decor already 😉

  10. What a lovely space. The panelling and your furniture are both classic and so elegant. I like the fabric you've chosen for your curtains (I just lined my own!! not sure why I skipped it either 🙂 I think a few more layers will really show off your style.

  11. The drapery fabric is so pretty in there!!! I'm totally cracking up that you mis-measured by 10 inches!! the mirror is so pretty, I think sconces on either side would be great, and I'm in favor of switching out the chandy. Sorry Jimmy. 😉

  12. The room is beautiful. I noticed in your list of things yet to do, you said you wanted to paint the walls. I was going to ask you what colors were on the walls ! I love the paint color on the upper wall, as well as the white on the bottom half !

  13. Your house is beautiful. I would add a colorful tray on the console with some bottles and cool glasses. You need a bar area right(?). The mirror looks a little lonely on the big wall I agree, so adding sconces sounds nice or bring in some color through art. Can't wait to see what you do

  14. Its looking great! I LOVE the drapery- Im so glad you picked that fabric!! and I LOVE that Pottery Barn chandy too! one of my clients is going to put that in her laundry room.

  15. Hey girl. I really love the fabric in that room. Beautiful. I LOVE the PB chandy and just recommended it to a client. SO pretty. Your room is really shaping up {it's already so pretty!}.

  16. Your dining room is looking fanastic! I love what you have already done! The curtains are so lovely! Can I ask where you bought the curtain rods? I would like some short ones like those, they look great! Thanks.

  17. I pretty much "pin" everything on your site 🙂 I adore the curtains and that Pottery Barn chandelier made me GASP. I am so in love, I had to run and show my husband. You have a beautiful house and impeccable style! I think your dining room is coming along nicely; it's smart to take your time and purchase only what you love. Can't wait to see the final product!

  18. Megan – Super late in commenting, but I'm looking for a seamstress in Houston to sew some (lined!) curtains for our house, too. Could you pass along your lady's name or make any suggestions? I'm sort of at a loss on how to start finding one! Thanks!
