3 Things That Make Me Feel Organized (Even When I’m Not)

I don’t know if it’s the laziness of these hot summer days, or the crazy combination of trying to work, work out, spend time with my husband and baby, attend parties and visit with friends, write my blog, read blogs, and take care of the house, but lately I’ve found myself really feeling like I need to get it together when it comes to keeping things tidy and organized around our home.

Trust me, I am okay with not having a perfectly clean house all the time, and realistically speaking, it’s just not possible all the time.   But even in the midst of the bits of chaos happening around here right now, if I do the following 3 things, I feel more organized and keep my sanity!

Although I’ve gone to bed on many a night with a sink full of dirty dishes, but it’s really not what I prefer to wake up to in the morning.  When I take the time to do the dishes and clean the kitchen sink before bed, the kitchen is a much nicer place to be in the morning and I don’t wake up feeling already behind the 8-ball!

I get a little crazy when my purse becomes like a black hole that I can’t find anything in.  My pet peeve is fishing for a ringing phone or keys that can’t be found at the moment you need them.  It only takes about   10 minutes to dump everything out, throw away the trash, clean out all the receipts from my wallet and organize the cash.  Having a purse with a couple of compartments is nice for keeping things organized too.

Oh I love to get into a clean car!  I do keep mine pretty clean, generally speaking, but with me and my son occasionally snacking in the car, crumbs tend to accumulate, not to mention the dirt of everyday life.  There’s a friend-owned carwash near our house that I pop into about twice a month to give my car a nice bath- inside and out!  Don’t you just love to get into a clean car?!

  1. Clean kitchen sink at the end of the day is key for me. It makes the whole kitchen look clean in my eyes!

I'm particular about our car too. With two kiddos it can be hard to keep up with. But I always carry everything in the house at the end of a trip, and the biggest thing that helps is that I bought a car garbage bag that attaches to the console… lifesaver! And I can dump it in the trash at the gas station while I'm filling up.

  2. I totally agree with you Megan, these 3 things being under control do make me feel better. And yes, summer is a crazy time, so keeping up does seem to be challenging. Happy Thursday!

  3. Oh how funny– I cleaned out my purse while I was having my car washed this morning. And my kitchen sink is actually clean today! It's gonna be a GREAT day! 🙂

  4. I totally agree about the all of those! I will never forget the time I had my purse searched at the airport and the lady searching it told me it was the cleanest purse she had seen. Best complement EVER.

  5. These tips are great, but honestly, I just can't stop looking at your purse…it's gorgeous! I'm a bit of a bag freak; I just can't have enough! Yours is so, so pretty. A purse like that is a joy to keep organized! 🙂

  6. For me it is definitely a clean bathroom, made bed & organized closet!! If I can't find makeup/clothes easily when I am getting ready it stresses me out so much!!

  7. So funny… I feel the exact same way about those three things, in addition to the pantry and the fridge.

  8. Completely agree about a clean sink! I really don't like waking up to dirty dishes and sink for the very reasons you said!

  9. I'm with you and the kitchen sink! I feel a lot better waking up in the morning to an organized looking kitchen. I also usually keep my car spotless, but in this heat I just can't seem to keep it clean…I should probably take it in somewhere. I am HORRIBLE about my purse, no matter what I do to try to keep things together, it just doesn't happen!

  10. I know just what you're talking about. I try to always get the dishes done so I don't wake up to that mess. I ran through the car wash yesterday. I got a new car 2 weeks ago & it's black. I'm trying to keep it clean! My purse is my downfall. Ugh! Such a mess!!

  11. ok so the only one I am good at following is the clean sink. My purse and car look like an episode out of hoarders! but I blame the 3 children -LOL I can do that right?

  12. I'm with you on all of this! I clean my kitchen before bed always. It's just one small thing that I can do to feel ahead the next day. Saves my sanity!

  13. You're exactly right with this one! I would just add the kitchen table to this, since it's our "don't want to think about it" drop zone. I have to remind my lazy self that leaving stuff on that table is just delaying the inevitable decision. Just make it quick and bam, it's done.

  14. I'm definitely with you on ALL of these!! I really need to wash my car right now. It's disgusting because I took my two puppies to the vet. Yikes!

  15. You are one busy lady… and I agree with the clean sink bit! I hate having a sink full of dirty dishes, though sometimes it seems we just can't avoid it.

May have to get some tips from you on balancing life as time goes on! I'm slowly learning more each day about mommyhood haha

  16. Totally agree with you. I am terrible about keeping the outside of my car clean (and my trunk looks like a disaster)!

  17. I really want to get better at cleaning my car! I don't wash it often but I keep the inside clean- vacuuming, removing trash, etc. I hate a dirty car. I have to agree with you on the kitchen sink too, I hate waking up to a sink with dirty dishes!

  18. I'm totally on board with the sink and the purse…. but the clean car… just can't seem to get ahead of that one. It drives Jeff crazy.

  19. I'm like you, I don't like to get up and to a messy kitchen. I always make sure the kitchen is clean before I go to bed. The purse, is one thing I hate to clean, since my husband hands me receipts when we go shopping. I guess he thinks I will organize them in my purse. lol Anyway, it doesn't take long, but I clean mine out only once a month. I have to get better at this. And, I love a clean car. This is a must for me. Have a great weekend!

  20. This is TOO funny bc I feel the exact same way!!! If all of those 3 things are tidy + the backdoor counter space, I feel AOK. =)

  21. Great things to keep me inspired to clean out my handbag! Haha! After a trip, it's always a mess!

  22. I'm bad about the car…want to get better! For me, it would be clean counters in the kitchen/dining, clean sink, and clean (swept)floors!

  23. I'm right there with you. I struggle with the purse organization. But this post made me get more organized. And nothing better than to buy a NEW purse to keep clean! Your MK purse is to die for!

  24. I feel the same way about a clean car. I mean we are in it soooo much! I spent my late afternoon yesterday sprucing mine up. Also, I bought it brand new, back n 2004, and keeping it clean keeps that new car feel to it. I even take the rugs out and shampoo them in the tub a couple times a year. aahhhhh. So nice!
