Summer To-Do List

Ever since creating my home agenda, I’ve been tackling some “to-dos” around the house and making lists of larger projects I want to accomplish in the future.  Watching my son go from rolling over and cooing to running around the house at mock speed while singing his ABC’s makes me  consider what’s important and how I want to spend my time, since life seems to go by so quickly! Yes, I like to have a clean house, but I also appreciate seeing those tiny handprints on the fridge, near the middle, since that’s as high as he can reach.  And the toys strewn about our sitting room floor?  I find myself smiling at them, because it’s a sign that he’s still here.   Maybe I’m a sappy new mom, but I have a best friend and mom to two (ages 2 and 4) who theorizes that teenagerhood might be akin to pregnancy- when you get to the end, you are ready for them to be out! 🙂
But I’m not quite there yet, and summer afternoons have a way of slipping past all too soon if I’m not intentional about them.  So, enjoy them we do!  If you were to drop by our house on a random weekend in the recent past, you’d likely find us playing in the backyard (while piles of clean laundry wait to be folded) James naked, wet, and covered in dirt, both of us enjoying melting popsicles and our little blow up pool.  These are the days!
The laundry can wait until bedtime:)
What else do I want to do this summer?  Here’s our “to do” list:

  1. Those are all great..especially the date night! Mine are to get organized and get rid of clutter…and to find some new great recipes!

  2. I would call that a summer dream list.
My to do list includes get the yard under control, get windows resealed and painted, patch hole in roof (OK – that I am getting someone else to do.)

My dream list would include attend small local festivals and craft shows. We were at one on Sat and I did not see a crabby face on anyone there. That is a dream date.

  4. I think you have a great list going!! I have something similar in my drafts that I need to finalize before summer is over. 😉

San Antonio with kids should be fun. My grandparents lived in San Antonio, and my brother looked forward to nothing more than visiting the Alamo. I liked the Quadrangle and Schlitterbahn. And the shopping. 😉

Enjoy your summer!! It goes by too quickly, I am learning.

  5. Get a tan. Eat good food on the grill. Enjoy the sunshine. Be happy!

Those are my summer to-do's. Your list is a lot more productive than mine 😉

  6. Robin- Even as I typed that, I thought, I bet moms of kiddos who are about to leave home are thinking that they're not ready for them to go! 🙂

  7. What a great list! I especially love the date night photo- too cute!!

My summer list includes camping by the beach, organizing my art supplies, getting the rooms in my apartment closer to a "finished" stage, and taking weekend trips to visit friends in DC and Connecticut.

    Love your blog! – Elizabeth

  8. I just want to finish the projects that I have started. I have about 3 on the burner now, and for some reason I can't seem to get to them.
I love the date night idea, we all need that!

  9. Sounds like pure perfection!!! I love all of these images. My hubs and I plan on visiting as many California Coastal towns as we can this Summer!!

  10. what a great list! I think I'm going to add a few of yours onto mine. So far I just have unpack, get settled in, and make some friends! Can you tell I just moved, Ha!

  11. I love how you said…a summer with intention. Going to write up a "bucket list" post now. As the boys are still sleeping in.

Glad I am not the only one with piles of clean laundry…

    🙂

  12. We have some similar lists! 🙂 If only it would get a bit cooler to get moving on some things but I guess that's not going to happen.

  13. Favorite time of the year. We plan to do many bike rides and beach days . . .and casual BBQs as well. Come on over!

  14. First off, I just love your blog! This post really got me thinking about what is important during the summer because when it is beautiful outside, it just seems a shame to waste it inside! My list includes basking in the sunshine, eating yummy grill food, finishing up a project or two, and bringing the outdoors inside more than I normally do!

  15. That sounds like a great list to me. I have plant a hydrangea on my list as well. Also, to spend as much time in our pool as possible!!

  16. Great list, friend! I hope to 'do' less and 'live' more. At least until school starts again!!

    and loved your Da-Da post!!!

  17. Awesome to do list. I really identify with the things you said. If I am not intentional, things simply do not get done. That even applies to spending time with my children sometimes. It's easy to let time pass by and not make the most of it. That's why I've been doing "Make a List Mondays" on my blog. This post is perfect! I'd love it if you could link up. 🙂

  18. What a great list! I just need to slow down and learn to enjoy summer — it was so much easier when we got time off! 🙂

  19. Sounds great!
    1. Paint my laundry room (we picked out a lavender color)
    2. Vacation in Stone Harbor
    3. Spend days letting the kids swim in our baby pool

  20. Love your summer to-do list. I want to copy yours…And your mindset. It's tough to step outside the routine sometimes and your posts brings reality 🙂

  21. I just made a post about my summer travel goals here: http://www.travelhyper.com/2011/06/summertime/

My home goals include refinishing my dining room table, continue eating lots of fresh fruits, repaint and tile my kitchen, and convince my dog to behave well enough to pass the Canine Good Citizen test. I might be biting off more than I can chew with that last one.

  22. Yes… come to Austin!!! If you let me know when you are coming, I can recommend some great kid-friendly must-see places.

  23. Great list! They grow up so fast – clean laundry is overrated 🙂 Play more clean less 🙂

  24. Fabulous list! Sounds like you have a fun summer ahead of you : ) Does James like the water?

  25. That was an awesome list! You have me thinking… maybe I need to make my own list. I love it that you are leaving the laundry and enjoying your little guy!!!

  26. I agree with Robin, you will NEVER be ready for them to go (nor will they, but they won't tell ya that part). We will have two seniors next fall, one graduating college in December and one high school in May…I won't be ready, nor will they! Just the other day, Elie said, "mom, if I were to get a job out of state, you and dad would move to be near me wouldn't you?" She didn't like my answer!
