Our Easter Brunch

Our Easter weekend felt so good.  As I sit here writing this post I just feel peaceful, relaxed, and so blessed.  Our son is sound asleep for the night and all I can think is “We.Are.A.FAMILY.”  I think because we did so many “family” things with James this weekend, it’s really sinking in that the three of us completely make up our own family.  We (Jimmy & I) are obviously still our parents’ children, but now WE are the parents and the ones driving the car to the zoo and the beach with OUR little guy in tow!  It’s a little surreal when I stop to consider it. . . I do have some super cute photos of the zoo and beach trip to share with you, but today I’m giving you a glimpse of our imageLast week I shared some of my inspiration photos, and this weekend we had Jimmy’s sister and family over to partake of a lazy Sunday brunch.  I am SO thankful for having a sis-n-law that I love to be around.  She’s funky and cool and sweet and wise (having been a mom for about 8 more years than me, even though she’s younger:), I really appreciate her perspective).  And since they live pretty close, we’re able to spend a lot of time together, which is especially fun with the kids.  image The table was inspired by these $2.00 plates from Target, which kinda remind me of the fun style of Jonathon Adler.  And because they’re plastic, we can use them outside this summer. image James was really clingy, wanting to be held a lot on Sunday, so sista swooped in and played with him in the living room so Jimmy and I could finish cooking.  (That’s the kind of greatness I meant about the sis-n-law- I didn’t even have to ask for her help and then I was relaxed because I could hear James laughing and playing, instead of pulling on my leg.) Jimmy made the most awesome breakfast potatoes, and I made Barefoot Contessa’s sour cream coffee cake- so delicious!  It’s a new tradition for Christmas, but was so good at Easter too.  We also had pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon.  And coffee! image image I took a cue from Hi Sugarplum and planted some herbs in aluminum pails for a fresh addition to the table (they’ll go outside to grow tomorrow).  WalMart sold the herbs in plantable pods for just $3.33 and the pails were $1.00 at Hobby Lobby.  image I’m not a big drinker, but the  image sure went down easy! image The food was delicious and we lingered at the dining table enjoying easy conversation that comes from lots of time spent together.  We ate too much coffee cake.  We laughed as we watched our nephew put chocolate chips on his pancakes (his request for chocolate chip pancakes came after the last one was cooked, so he got a side of chips instead.)  After the dishes were cleared, we hung out awhile in the living room, and Jimmy and our nephew played video games (a familiar scene in our house for sure- the couch seats are permanently indented).  James played with his Easter pail and threw the plastic eggs in and out of the bucket. image image All gone. image Before they left, we made sure to get a few pics of James and his cousin together.  James is so fascinated by him, but I can see why- that 8-year old kid is one of the funniest, smartest, and coolest kids I know.  I love watching them interact with each other.  image image Hope y’all had a wonderful weekend too!
