Faux Flower Fan

Yes, I admit it! While I prefer the real deal, I have a few faux flowers around my home.  Since our color palette is pretty neutral, I love to add color with flowers.  I usually buy a fresh bunch from my grocery store every two weeks and keep them on the kitchen island and/or breakfast table.  But, I love the pay-once-never-die option that faux flowers bring.

Faux- Pottery Barn.  These are a new addition to our kitchen.  I really like them:)  Could maybe use a stem or two more.  I have 4 here – vase is from Target.

Real- I love to keep a couple stems by the kitchen sink.

Real- love the height and color and they aren’t even all blooming yet.

Real- left over from James’ party.  I don’t normally do red, but these are gorgeous!  Little $1 vases from Wal-Mart.

Real – already wilting after just a few days :(

Faux- Crate & Barrel.  I’m planning to put it in this.  I can never keep real orchids alive.

Faux- Pottery Barn?? I can’t remember, I’ve had them forever.  The grass stems are from Pier 1.  Vase is a recent purchase from World Market.

Real-  love to keep a few stems in my office too.  Daisies are super inexpensive.  Vases from Crate & Barrel.

  3. So pretty!! I like using fake flowers too- sooo much cheaper than real ones. Plus when I find a color that looks really good in my house I don't want it to die! I can not even tell you how in love I am with your closet. I could just sit and stare at that picture!

  9. I have to say, the fake ones are so versatile and they look great!

Sorry I was looking all around the flowers but can you tell me where you got the fabric in the dining room (maybe?), the grey and white under the wilted purple flowers? I've seen it in other colors and love that color.

    Thanks!

  10. Whoaaa! I got exhausted just looking at all the spots you have vases and flowers and keep thinking what a pain that would be to keep changing out! I'm lazy though, you aren't. I love them--they are gorgeous.

Great, when are you taking me to Homegoods to celebrate your prize?

  11. And I have to add...that when I first saw your title, I thought you had made a fan. Out of flowers. Gosh I'm a dork.

  12. Dedication! I like the faux flowers that come in the vases that have the glue in them that makes it look like it's water. (And then you have to touch the flower petal to find out if it's really real or not) Know what I'm talking about? I like that until I see them in someones house or restaurant and the glue is so old it's now turned to yellow. Not cute. Ha anyways your home is beautiful as always! Take care!

  14. The timing of this post is too funny! I was literally just thinking earlier today that I wanted to add some simple faux flowers to our bedroom. I love fresh flowers, but I also like the longevity of the fake ones!

  18. Oh real flowers are always great! I love them! I used to wait until hubby would buy them for me, but lately, I have been supplying them :)

  20. Love fresh, but faux is easier in some rooms! And, now they look so real it's hard to tell the difference. I don't do too many due to our dust allergies, but with a quick spray of compressed air, they clean up easily. Just a few more weeks, and I'll be bringing them in from our yard, can't wait!

  21. Wow - I'm one for real flowers but these fake ones still look great!... when did they start making fake flowers that really look like real flowers :)

  22. I wouldn't have thought, that faux flowers could look so real! I wouldn't have guessed with any of them, except maybe the little white ones.
Aren't flowers just so lovely to look at? I find that they brighten the dreariest of days! x

  23. Wow, you have a lot of flowers in your house. Love them all. May have to pick some up at the grocery today. Thanks for the inspiration.

  24. I can be a faux flower fan as well. I actually have some in my living room at the moment!

  25. They're all lovely! I love hydrangeas...hoping mine will bloom this year. (They had a rough summer last year) Nice faux flowers are a great substitute for the real thing. :)

  26. It's hard to tell the difference. I'm a fan too!! Thanks for the post!

  27. I love the plate the blue crate and barrel vase is sitting on top of in your office, so pretty!!

  28. I recently bought some fake hydrageas just because a) I kill everything real and b) my cats eat flowers. But I planted a few hydrangeas last year in hopes of getting some pretty blooms to put in vases! Cross your fingers the harsh winter didn't kill them!

  29. You mentioned that you can't keep orchids alive - I may have discovered the "trick" - I read recently that they take in water through their leaves. I started watering mine with a spray bottle and it is going CRAZY! New blooms, new shoot, etc. Try it! It's beautiful!

  30. As long as there is a blend of both and you switch up the faux ones I don't think its a problem!! =)

  31. I would LOVe to have real flowers all over my house, but it's just not realistic financially. I love what you've done with the faux ones! and I love the colors you have all over your house.
And again, I am so jealous of your closet!! ;)

  34. I love having fresh flowers in my house so one thing I started just a couple weeks ago was planting a few flowering bulbs! I planted 2 types of peony's 1st > Sarah Bernhardt (light pink) and 2nd > Karl Rosenfeld (deep rosey pink) and some Ranunculus. These all make great cutting flowers in addition to my Blushing Bride Hydrengea! Cheap solution to fresh flowers if they only bloom this year! My fingers are crossed since I don't exactly qualify as a "green thumb"!

Love all the fresh flowers you have around your home! Hoping I'll get to do the same thing with the new bulbs I planted in my yard!

  35. I love having fresh flowers all over my home and I do so regularly. But there are a few choice areas that include fake hydrangeas (my favorite flower) so that when the real ones die off we are not left without that lovely accent. Years ago I would have just done without. But the quality of fake stems have improved dramatically and if used sparingly, I think they come in mighty handy!

  36. I've purchased a few hi-end faux floral arrangements over the years, and I always love them - every time I see them, they're just as beautiful as fresh. With that said, I like fresh florals as well.

Speaking of fresh flowers, Hubby wasn't impressed with the Valentine's Day rose selection this year, so he purchased a mixed bouquet - not something I would normally like, but I just threw them away today. They looked stunning for more than 3 weeks.... much longer than roses ever last for me. Guess what I'll be purchasing more often.?

  40. Goodness, you've got quite the flower shop going on! I love it - I need more flowers in my home. I also believe that faux can look just fine if you get high-quality ones. I have some faux flowers in our half-bath, and it's nice to have something perky and yellow in there for months!

I'm having a giveaway for a $50 shopping spree at Joss & Main. Stop by to enter!

  42. I admire your dedication to keeping real flowers in the house! I love them, but I just don't spend the money on them consistently. I do have faux flowers, but I tend to forget that they're even there (except in my office where I gaze at them every time I'm in there.)
More importantly, I WANT your closet! <3 it!

  43. Look at all those flowers so pretty! i really like red and blue flowers in your arrangement.
