FAQ

I love getting email from you!  I sincerely appreciate the kind words and encouragement.  I know it takes time to care enough to leave a comment or send an email, and I thank you for that.  Lately I’ve noticed that some of the same questions keep popping up, so I thought it might be high time to add a little FAQ page to the blog.

What is the name of the chandelier in your closet?  Where can I get one?

image

Answer:  This has been the number one most asked question about our home!  And to think my husband thought I was ridiculous for wanting a chandelier in my closet!  The chandelier is called Lucia chandelier.  I got mine at Lighting, Inc. but have seen it online here

What are your floors made of?  Do you like them? What are the pros/cons?

ANSWER:  This is the second most frequently asked question!  Our floors are by Morning Star and are bamboo.  The bamboo is very hard and actually took my feet awhile to get used to!

They are gorgeous, however, I now think they are too “solid” because they show every scuff mark and get dirty easily.  A floor with more variation in color would have been a smarter choice to hide the dirt better.

This post shows the floors being installed.

What is the name of the pendant lights in your kitchen?  Where can I get them?

image

ANSWER:  We got our pendant lights at Lighting, Inc., but I don’t know the name of them.  They are very similar to these at Lighting, Inc. and these at Restoration Hardware.

What color are your kitchen cabinets painted?

ANSWER:  Devine White by Sherwin Williams- flat paint.  All the cabinetry in our home is painted this same color.

What paint colors did you use in your home?

image

image

ANSWER:  All of the walls in our home are painted with Sherwin Williams paint.

First floor including the formal dining room, living room, breakfast area, kitchen, staircase, upstairs hallway, and guest room:  Agreeable Gray

The blue in the media cabinet is Jamestown Blue.

Jimmy’s office- Accessible Beige.

Master bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom- A New Gray.

Nursery- Blissful Blue.

My Office- Friendly Yellow

You can read this post for more information.

Where did you get your couch/dining table & chairs?

Our living room sectional (4 Piece Sectional Wedge by Pottery Barn in Light Wheat)  is the first thing I bought for the new house.  It’s micro suede, which has held up beautifully.  The chaise end of the most desired seat in the house!

Our dining room table and chairs are from Restoration Hardware.  Sadly, we hardly ever use them!

Where did you get your media cabinet?

The media cabinet is a “built-in” unit that was built on site to fit the specifications of the room.

  2. Oh girl! We've got those floors too. I LOVED them in the show room and I do like them...but you are so right...they show EVERYTHING.

Also, I purchased some of those gel floor mats for the kitchen and they are fantastic.

I stopped with the Windex and now I use hot water and a little vinegar to clean them and it works great. You have amazing taste and I love you're style!!

  8. Why did you choose flat paint for your kitchen cabinets? I'm in the process of starting to refinish mine and am doing my research. Just curious if there was a specific reason? Any suggestions you have on painting cabinets would be awesome!

  14. I looove dark floors but they can be a pain! We're planning (just in our heads for now!) our basement out and we think we're going to go with light floors down there. It kils me, but with 3 cats? I'm constantly vacuuming up hair and litter!

I have a new question though! Was your kitchen island custom built? I love the bookcase and I want one! :)

  15. Thank you for all the answers. I have dark floors, probably with a bit more variation but they are still a pain. I got a shark steam mop for Christmas and love it. I am also curious why you would use flat paint on cabinets, that would be my last thought.

  19. I actually didn't "choose" the flat paint, but realized the paint was flat after everything was painted. At the time, I questioned our builder about it and he said he chose flat paint because it is more modern. You can also still clean it with spray cleaner if it gets dirty.

  20. Hi - your home is absolutely gorgeous! I'm so happy I stumbled across your blog! My home has a very similar color palette, but I can't get it as pulled together looking as yours! One area I'm having a lot of trouble with is artwork. Do you have any pics of what you have up on your walls? Or any suggestions for inspiration? Many thanks!

  21. Your house is absolutely beautiful!!!!! How did you decide on the white to use on all the Cabinetry? When I look at the SW Divine White paint swatch, it looks so much more beige/tan than white. I would have been so scared to pick that one but it looks wonderful in your house. Do you ever wish you would have gone with a whiter white? I’m in the process of having my cabinets repainted and having such a hard time picking a white! :)

  22. SO true about the solid-colored dark hard surface floors! Although I *loved* the look of mine once it was installed, the maintenance in terms of it showing every bit of dust and scuff marks made me nuts. I will definitely be choosing a flooring with more variation in color (and possibly even texture) the next time :o)
