The Shutters are Coming, The Shutters are Coming!

Ordering blinds and shutters for our home was one of the last things we did before moving in.  I had only a short time to decide what we were going to do with our windows in terms of blinds/shutters and probably made some mistakes.  I love the look of bamboo shades and wonder (secretly, so the hubby doesn’t freak out) if we should’ve gotten those instead.  They just warm up a space so well.  Anyhow . . . We opted for blinds on all the windows downstairs, leaving the two rear glass doors uncovered.  Upstairs, we also have blinds in all the bedrooms, except for our master bedroom and bath, where we decided on shutters.   If I recall, we had to go with shutters here because the way the window handles are, they would have interfered with the blinds.   Those details are a little foggy now.  But, apparently, shutters take 8 weeks to manufacture.   So, for the last 2 1/2 months, our bedroom windows have looked like this: baby and spray paint 019 baby and spray paint 020  . . .  and the bathroom window Blogs and Coffee 007 The shutters are scheduled to be installed Thursday morning.  I’m so excited but I actually don’t even remember anymore what they are supposed to look like.   I’ll be sure to share the results with you!  Are you a blinds, shutter, or bamboo shades kind of gal?  We are on blinds overload downstairs but it’s kinda too late to change it now since we just got them.  I’m hoping that adding drapes will help.

  2. We have white 2 in. wood blinds throughout, except of our garden tub in the master bath where we have white plantation shutters. They were the more economical decision when doing an entire house. But, now that we have been in the house for "quite" sometime we are going to start changing them out for plantation shutters everywhere. While I like the look of the bamboo blinds, they would not look good architecturallly from the outside…something people tend to forget when choosing their window coverings.

  3. We moved into an older home, where no blind really went together and a lot of them were those crappy metal mini blinds that I hate! So we changed out the front of the house windows to these lovely white roman shades we found on sale at JC Penney and then are slowly deciding what we want to do in the other rooms of the house. It is quite a challenge and expensive job to take on all at once :)!

  4. Amanda- um, YES!!!! That would be just awesome- my 1st guest post!

Also, the shutter guy is here now, and bringing in the shutters. I'm getting nervous, they look huge, like they belong outside! We'll see . . .

  5. I like the look of the bamboo shades, but it's not really me. I have a plan to do plantation shutters in my family room when we re-do it, but only there. After that, I just don't know… I really like lots of light, so I guess my real preference is to just have a valance or a very simple window treatment, and hide a shade underneath for those times when you need it.

Your house is lovely. I can't wait to see the new pics with your new shutters. I think you made a good choice.

  6. I am new to reading your blog and I love it. You have great taste. Looking forward to seeing your new shutters. I like the warmth and feel of bamboo but blinds are nice to cause you can just open them a little and curtains always help.

  7. I know those paper blinds are not appealing, but they sure do the job for a temporary look. The shutters are going to look fantastic!

  8. Don't get nervous! They will look very different up and I'm sure great. I can't wait to see the finished look.
I think window treatments are a real challenge but they can also make the biggest difference in a room. I'm still agonizing over my curtain choices in my living room. I've been debating on one window, bamboo or roman….
