Adding a Touch of Glamour

Wow! After reading each response to my Schlumpakinda post, I feel like a have a slew of sisters who really can relate.  I echo the sentiments of those who pointed out how GOOD they feel when they do put some effort into getting themselves together in the morning.  It just makes you feel better about yourself and ready to face the day.  And the idea of getting prettied up also inspired me to add a touch of glamour to our sitting room, specifically, the reading nook.  We have a large leather club chair and bulky side table from our last house that isn’t necessarily my vision for this space, but right now, we’re working with what we have.  I’d like to have a plush, light colored chaise (light blue, gray?) and a beautiful little side table.  But alas, we have THIS: Dining table, sitting room 004   Which, this morning, I turned into THIS bed head and nook 010  Here’s how I added a touch of glamour to this space. 1.  I placed a beveled mirror on the table top to reflect some light.   I haven’t yet affixed the mirror to the table, but I will do so soon. Dining table, sitting room 006 2.  Added a glass vase full of gorgeous hydrangeas. Dining table, sitting room 016  3.  Although the flowers are beautiful on their own, I wanted to layer the table a little more with some of my favorite things to give it that cozy feeling.  I added a photo from our wedding in a simple, silver frame, a small glass votive holder, and one of my favorite books.  Dining table, sitting room 036  4.  Then, in an effort to minimize the impact of the bulky leather chair, I added some pillows and a throw blanket.  I played around a little with different pillows and the placement of the blanket.  Dining table, sitting room 023 Dining table, sitting room 029 Dining table, sitting room 037  5.  Finally, I added some magazines to the ottoman, ready for me to read when the house is quiet and I have some time to myself.  *ahhhh* Dining table, sitting room 031  It’s still our old furniture, just all glammed up!  Source List

  1. Ashley- the mirror is from (where else?) Target! It's 18 inches and just happened to fit our table. I measured the table at almost 19 inches, then went looking for the mirror. It was about $20.

Courtney- The throw is from Z Gallerie and is soooo comfy. It's like a light sweater.

  2. looks glamourous yet masculine at the same time…all that is missing is a nice coaster for him to set his beverage ;o)

  3. Looks great. I like the throw best over the back of the chair. Someone threw one of our blankets over the back of my dining room chair the other day and I haven't moved it yet cuz it looks so cute. Haha. Where did you find the mirror? Did it just happen to fit perfect or did you get it cut to fit? Love the idea.

  4. I'd like to pick up one of those magazines and plop down right now! nice work. It's amazing what accessorizing can do to a space. Love the print on the throw.

  5. You could be a professional stager…that looks great! Love the throw on the back, love the glamour that the mirror adds…and if those hydrangeas are from your yard, we may not be able to be friends because my jealousy will be too strong.

    xo, c.

  6. Love the hydrangeas. Super jealous you can get them at a grocery store, obviously I live in the wrong state!

  7. Amazing what accessories can do. Nice. 🙂 Glancing quickly at your wedding photo – in that photo, your hubby resembles Donny Osmond! 🙂

  8. Assolutamente d'accordo con lei. Ottima idea, sono d'accordo con lei.
E 'vero! Ritengo che questa sia un'ottima idea.

  9. SO cute and fun! I love getting inspiration and just going for it like you did (: Such a beautiful picture of you guys, too.

  10. I have an almost identical side table and will now add a mirror, what did you use to attach the mirror to it – would love something that is not permanent so that it could be changed back.
